DETOXIFICATION TECHNICIAN

The basic purpose is to assist patients to expel their toxins from their bodies through basic detox. You’re required to know how to operate these machines safely and be able to upsell opportunities for clientele.

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a minimum of one year experience working with people in a medical office environment; experience with holistic medicine preferred.
  • Must be able to conduct and record patient vitals.
  • Medical assistant certification required.
  • Must be willing to interact with people in a friendly manner on a constant basis.
  • Must be available to work some late nights (8pm) and weekends (seasonal events) as needed.
  • Must be personable with a professional demeanor and able to exercise courtesy and tact with all patients.
  • Possess HIPAA regulations and medical information knowledge and sharing practices.
  • Must be willing to receive further medical practice training.
  • Must be willing to embrace a holistic health philosophy and be willing to explain to patients how naturopathic and holistic healthcare fits into that philosophy.
  • Must be incredibly efficient and organized with the ability to follow directions well.
  • Must be proficient with technology and electronic health records software.
  • Self-starter and be able to work with minimal supervision the majority of the time.
  • Competent with the following software: MS Word & Excel, Google Drive and GMAIL in a Windows environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time; detailed oriented skills required.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality (HIPAA).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

FUNCTIONAL SCOPE:

Responsible for basic and advanced detoxification services, updating medical records, coordinating client remedies and other related activities as directed by the Practice Doctor.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Job Function *)

  • Reviews patient health files for in-take.
  • Inputs patient data into an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Ability to use an electronic health record efficiently.
  • Understands, promotes, and performs basic, advanced, and expert detoxification services. Further understands benefits, contraindications, and indications of all detoxification services.
  • Records general diagnostic information including blood pressure, temperature, weight, and height and records vitals for the doctor’s use in the examination and treatment.
  • Coordinates client remedies for patient pick up
  • Understands and promotes the benefits of holistic practice medicine.
  • Submits a daily medical procedure sheet to the front office assistant.
  • Maintains weekly inventory management.
  • Assists Practice Doctor with medical charting (ie. note-taking)
  • Distributes educational information to patients as instructed by the Practice Doctor.
  • Extends remarkable customer services to all patients and members.
  • Abides by HIPAA laws regarding sharing of personal medical information.
  • Helps keeps the office clean and presentable, doing spot cleaning throughout the day and thorough cleaning at the end of each business day. Participates in the opening, mid-day, and closing procedures.
  • Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and serviceability of the practice and equipment; arranges for maintenance and repair as needed.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical Conditions

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate as the employee works in an office environment, uses a computer. Employees are required to work mornings and afternoons as required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the detoxification technician regularly is required to use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or equipment; walk, stoop, kneel; talk or hear. The DT must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Must be able to spend long hours sitting, and/or standing.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to understand medical terminology and carry out detailed and objective written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.

Other Skills and Abilities:

The Detoxification Technician must be able to remain calm under pressure and communicate effectively when dealing with guests, practice members, staff, equipment problems, or emergency situations.

A 90-day new hire probationary period will be in effect from the initial date of service. Employees are eligible for a six-month performance evaluation. A bonus incentive may apply based on policy.
