How to improve gut health naturally
Hippocrates is the father of western medicine. He most famously discovered that all diseases begin in the gut. The immune system, hormonal system, and the nervous system is all housed within the digestive system. Therefore, if you have any challenges with any of those systems it is best to look at the gut first. The gut microbiome has most recently been studied in depth to discover all of the variables.
People often come into my practice, and ask how to improve gut health naturally. It is a process to restore gut health. The first aspect to gut healing involves being mindful of your diet. Understanding what you eat, why you eat what you eat is the first step. From there, we look at how the body digests food. Even if you are eating 100% healthy diet, if you are not digesting and assimilating the diet it does us no good.
As we look at digestion, we also assess metabolism, metabolic rate and how the body assimilates the nutrients derived from the food that you are eating. Digestion and assimilation is a process. There is a lot of confusion attached to nutrient. What to eat, when to eat, and how much to eat. There is no simple answer and what works for one person may not work for another.
This is why we recommend working with a trained professional who can guide you through the process. Our practice has both DIY plans as well as group plans available for people. We look at macro nutrients, the split between carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. We determine the macro splits and determine the best ratio for you as the individual based on your goals.
Once you get the nutrition down, then you can work on the digestion and assimilation. This is the building blocks to repairing and supporting your immune system, your hormonal system, and/or your neurological system.
